The Perfect Skidless Yoga Mat, The Perfect Practice
Yoga may be one of the most enjoyable and rewarding forms of physical exercise currently in practice, but it is definitely nothing new. Different forms of yoga have been in practice for many, many years as it dates back to ancient times. Of course, the westernized form that most of us practice today is a bit different than what was performed thousands of years ago.
A man by the name of B.K.S. Iyengar developed the very popular Iyengar form of yoga, but his most noteworthy contribution to the practice is probably the addition of props such as blankets, foam blocks, and mats. He discovered while training his students that those who used these props actually progressed a lot further in a shorter period of time and were able to avoid common injuries. His book Light on Yoga was an important contribution to the yoga we are able to learn today.

Mats used for yoga are often referred to as a skidless yoga mat or simply “sticky mat” because your hands and feet should ideally stick to them so you don’t slip or fall during some of the more intensive movements. These mats are actually important to your safety as well as your comfort during every workout session.
So, what is the most economical way to come by a yoga mat? You could start by just renting or using a public use mat available through your fitness center or wherever you will be attending yoga classes. This does expose you to a wide variety of mats so you can determine what works best for you, but it also exposes you to a lot of germs and bacteria that could potentially make you sick. It is not uncommon for people to end up with skin conditions such as athlete’s foot just from using these mats that collect so much sweat from a wide variety of people.

Ideally, you should be able to focus on each pose and sequence and get your breathing perfect during a workout, but if you don’t have your own mat that you are comfortable with chances are you will spend more time worrying about falling. You shouldn’t have to worry about the mat slipping out from underneath you and the only way to become very familiar with the feel of a mat is to use the same one over and over. That means making the small investment to purchase your own!
Besides the actual skidless yoga mat itself, you will need to purchase a strap that will hold the mat in rolled position and/or a yoga mat bag. The bags are the best option since they not only ensure the mat can be stored away between workout sessions without unwinding, but it also keeps the surface clean so you don’t have to worry about rips, tears, or germs. The straps are different from the straps used during a workout as a prop. These straps are very simple pieces of cloth that hold the mat in a rolled position.
There are rubber mats reinforced by cotton which are very durable and which are great options for those who may be allergic to the latex used in other mat designs. Make sure to pay attention to measurements and the thickness of the mat as well. The thickness will determine how comforting and supportive you find the mat while the length will determine whether you can lie out flat and comfortably do every pose on the mat.
Of course, the best part of picking out your new skidless yoga mat is deciding which color to select. You could go with something simple like black or a brighter color that will make you feel energetic such as a bright pink. Just make sure that you purchase a brand that is able to go into the washing machine. This will ensure that you keep it clean so the sweat doesn’t break it down over time.
However, you can expect to need a replacement mat at regular intervals. The more often a mat is used the faster it will start to wear and tear due to the pressure of your body pushing into it hour after hour.

www.yogabodynaturals.com Chakrasana pose demonstration by Lucas of YOGABODY Naturals. Learn to roll backward smoothly, without hurting your neck in a backward roll. THE SETUP This posture is very simple, but people get a little carried away with it and try to go too quickly. Youll see children on the playground doing backward rolls all the time and never hurting themselves, but over-eager yoga students tense up and try to make this into more than it is its very simple. 1. Lie on your back 2. Hand under shoulders just like in wheel pose 3. Roll your feet over your head and touch the ground with your flexed toes (note: if you cant touch your feet, youre not ready for this transition posture) 4. On the 3rd trial roll, rock a little faster, push hard into your hands, and go all the way over TIPS 1. Do NOT allow your body to roll to one side or other other its all the way over (straight) or nothing 2. Dont hold your breath or grit your teeth 3. Just relax and let your body be limp I have a free 7-part email course here: www.yogabodynaturals.com

What would a yoga class be like?
I’m 16, and I wanna start some sort of body awareness fitness class, like yoga or something. I ride horses competitively, so that really has me tone, but I’d really like to be even stronger, and aware of my body’s movement, if you know what I mean.
So I’m thinking yoga. I’d probably take it here

This is the description
"Learn Yoga asana in the Iyengar style. With an emphasis on precise alignment and the use of Yoga props, you will be taught how to get into and out of the poses safely and accurately. Improve physical health while simultaneously teaching the mind to be calm and focused. Please bring a Yoga sticky mat to class, Yoga props such as blocks and straps are encouraged!"
What is Iyengar style? and yoga asana? Is it probably gonna be a bunch of older people or younger adults?
Also, I’m soo not flexible. Riding my whole life has made all my muscles super tight. Will that be a major problem?
