The Ashtanga yoga system is a powerful dynamic set of postures and focused breathing techniques derived from the teachings of K Pattabhi jois. Pattabhi Jois is the founder and director of the Ashtanga Yoga Research Institute in Mysore, India. The Ashtanga primary series, (known as Yoga Chikitsa Yoga Therapy) works out any physical, emotional, mental and spiritual blockages and restrictions. It allows the body and breath to open and become more flexible, flushing out any toxins from body and mind. This DVD is an introduction into the wonderful world of Ashtanga Yoga. In the menu you can choose from doing the full practise (with modifications), or you can select the sun salutations, standing sequence, sitting sequence or the finishing sequence, should you wish to work on a particular part or do a shorter practise. A full body yoga workout you will feel wonderful, look great and improve your entire being. Sarah Swindlehurst is the founder of eSSence yOga and yogakidz (co.uk). She has been a student of yoga since 1995 and is a trained yoga instructor and therapist working in Lancashire & Cumbria, England. www.essenceyoga.co.uk

I can't practice yoga due to my religious beliefs, is there a exercise that would give me the same physical benefits that yoga does, but is not yoga, and in no way connected to yoga?
